From 1989 to 1998, he created and developed the Derivatives Products and Futures Market area of Serfín Grupo Financiero, of which he was executive director. He simultaneously served as executive director of Private Banking at Operadora de Bolsa and Banca Serfín. He participated in the planning, development and creation of the Mexican Derivatives Market (MexDer) and was president of the Board and general director of its clearing house Asigna.
He has been a professor of Econometrics and Finance at the Center for Economic Research and Teaching, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), El Colegio de México and Universidad Iberoamericana. He is currently a professor of Applied Macroeconometrics at ITAM. In 2010 he received the Best Professor Award from the Department of Economics at the Ibero-American University.
He graduated as an actuary from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He obtained a master’s degree in Econometrics from the University of Manchester and a PhD in Econometrics from the Australian National University.
In 1976 he was awarded the Prize for the Best Students of Mexico, awarded by the National Council of Science and Technology, and in 1979 he received the A.H. Allman Prize in Statistics from the University of Manchester.
