As a public official, Itzel participated in the negotiation of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership; the Treaty between the United Mexican States, the United States of America and Canada; agreements for the reciprocal promotion and protection of investments, and other relevant international instruments, including regional integration initiatives, such as the Pacific Alliance. Her experience in dispute resolution procedures includes legal representation of the Mexican State in investment arbitrations before the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes, and in State-State proceedings litigated before the World Trade Organization. Previously, Itzel worked at the Permanent Mission of Mexico to this international organization in Geneva, Switzerland, where she was part of the Legal Affairs division.
Currently, Itzel is a Senior Associate at SAI in the practice areas of arbitration; foreign trade and foreign investment; regulatory practice and public policy, and trade remedies.
Since joining the firm, Itzel has advised and represented national and international clients from multiple sectors, including ports, finance, technology, steel, energy and consumer goods. She has also provided advice to foreign governments on domestic law and international trade negotiations.
Itzel holds a degree in Law and Finance from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey. She was awarded the CENEVAL Award for Excellence in Performance by the National Center for Higher Education. She is a member of Abogadas MX and Young ICCA, under the auspices of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration.
